Example curve - 'Snake diagram'
A 'snake diagram' is an automatically created layout that packs a lot of information into one diagram. The 'Head' of each snake (with the '<') gives information about that snake when you hover. Each spot is some detail of that topic. The size of spot tells you how much detail there is. The components in red snakes might be useful in other programs. The components in blue snakes are probably only of use in Audacity.
This diagram is documenting various components of the Audacity sound editor.
