Many diagrams have a very large number of parameters that affect the details of what they draw. A simple avatar drawing will have parameters for:

• Size & shape of chin, mouth, nose, eyes, ears, hair
• Colours
• Drawing style
• Facial expression
• Direction of gaze & angle of head

We need to change these parameters in a coordinated way. For example, we may want both eyes to be of similar size.

The variolator tracks what kind of changes you are making. As you make more choices it should present more choices 'in the same general direction' and fewer that take you away from that general direction. When working on an avatar much of the time you want to make symmetric changes. The variolator will learn that that is so.

One custom variolator is for avatars. Another is for leaves. The variolator can work for many images where trying different variations makes sense.
